Pokemon B+W: SHOWTIME by cartoongirl7 Pokemon B+W: SHOWTIME by cartoongirl7
Materials: Multiliners and Copic Sketch markers on A4 size paper, PS for editing.
Time: 25 hours.

THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER HRRRNNNGGG :icontearplz:

I drew this for a Pokemon B/W countdown event on tumblr here: [link] It was really fun participating in it with so many other wonderful artists!

I had originally wanted to draw these two along with N, Cheren, Belle (Bianca??), AND Pokemon. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't fit everything I wanted into an A4 so I had to scrap that orz;;; I went with a show/party theme, so hopefully they look like they're getting ready for the release tomorrow (°ᴗƪ)

Thank you *e1n for all of your help on this spread and egging me on to finish, I couldn't have done it without you TAT

Overall I'm happy that I finally got another marker piece out! ALSO I'M SO EXCITED FOR THE GAME RELEASE I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF. Goodbye productivity, goodbye life.

I think I'll critique this. :>

Vision
It looks amazing! The background is neat and it matches perfectly with the people and the pokemon. The outfits are nicely designed (on both the people and the pokemon. :XD:), and the poses are natural and not awkward-looking. The faces and expressions are really cute, too. The shading is really good. The colors work together pleasantly. Oh yeah, I also HAVE to mention the lace of her dress... it's drop-dead amazing.
Overall, the vision is really good!
I'll give you a 4/5 for vision.

Originality
Pretty original, I think! Of all the pokemon fanart I see, generally the concept is just a trainer holding their pokemon or something like that. It's nice that in this picture they're getting ready for a contest (I think). It's more of an active piece where the trainer actually interacts with their pokemon. Not to say that there aren't any pieces like that out there, but there are more "poses" than "active" fanarts. So it's pretty original, I'd say! :>
For originality, I'll give you a 4.5/5.

Technique
25 hours. Wow. That just speaks for itself. Effort is practically radiating off of this piece. Plus, the lines and coloring are so will done that it seems like a textured digital piece as opposed to a traditional piece with some PS editing. You obviously have a lot of talent and practice with copic markers; to produce something like this (and the rest of the pieces in your gallery) is amazing. Your coloring technique is really godly. :>

The anatomy is good, too, but your legs have always bothered me. Your girls (and guys) have thighs which are almost as thin as their calves. That's a bit scary if you think about it. It's also unrealistically thin. I understand it's your style, but it always seems a bit abnormal and even kind of distracting. Of course, this is just my opinion, but freakishly thin thighs annoy me a bit.

It doesn't take away that much from the amazingness of the piece though, and your technique is undoubtedly good. :>
I'll give you a 4.5/5 for technique.

Impact
The piece looks good, but there wasn't so much of an impact in this one, I think. To me, it's sort of like, yay, pokemon! And then yay, amazing colors! But after that, it doesn't really impact me that much. Maybe if the characters in the foreground stood out a bit more from the background, it would have been more impacting? I was thinking that maybe if the outer lines of the characters were either thicker or surrounded with white, they might stand out more. Although I'm not sure if it would look a bit weird; I'm trying to imagine the piece with a white cut-out style outline.... I guess it wouldn't be too bad. Either way, the characters sort of "blend" with the background, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't leave that much of an impact because they appear so "light." (Sorry, I can't really find the right words to describe it!)
For impact, I'll give you a 3/5.

Great job! Just want to say once again, this piece is amazing, along with all the other deviations in your gallery, and you've definitely got a lot of talent. Keep drawing! :>

This piece is truly stunning. Your copic works never cease to amaze me even now! What really catches my eye, however, is the wonderful amount of emotion you put into these characters- especially the Pokemon! This picture really symbolizes the whole idea of the Pokemon musicals very well! Also, the lace on the bottom of the female character's dress is one of my favorite parts. It is so well done, and very lovely. Your use of colors is also stunning, once again. The colors you have chosen are bright and pop so well.
I want to say that it was very difficult for me to find fault with this piece. There are very few elements that are visible to the eye right away that take away from the piece. One of the main things that bothers me most are probably the feet of the main female character. While the shoes were expertly done, I feel that the feet were placed at a bit of an awkward place- the cute, inward pose is adorable, but I feel that, though she is turned to be placing the hat on the Pokemon, her feet are turned toward the viewer, and not the Pokemon. While not noticeable right away, their position just seemed a bit awkward, that's all.
I also feel like the other Pokemon, Cottonee and Gothorita, could have also been dressed in something small to add to the scene- it just seemed a bit strange that while the other Pokemon were dressed, these 2 were left bare.

Putting those 2 minor things aside, the line-art is magnificent, and the shading, well done as always. You also captured the Pokemon with not a single flaw! I also love the adorable little scene going on in the bottom left corner of the piece, it is also quite cute. ^^ You made a truly lovely job of this, and I'm sure that many Pokemon fans will be quite excited in seeing this wonderful work of art. ^^ Excellent job!
